ICGC organizes “Freedom Run” in support of the Ghana Heart Foundation.
The International Central Gospel Church organized a non-competitive half-marathon race dubbed the “ICGC Freedom Run” in Accra on Saturday, March 27, 2004.
The event started from the ICGC Christ Temple, Abossey Okai with about 3,000 participants – including the founder and leader of the church, Dr. Mensa Otabil, some Pastors, Deacons, members of the church and the general public.
From Christ Temple, the participants followed the designated route through some principal streets of Accra including the High Street, Independence Square to South La turned unto the Ring Road and went through the Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah and Obetsebi-Lamptey circles back to the Christ Temple.
Most of the participants covered the half-marathon distance of 21.2 Km by running and walking whilst receiving encouragement from specially organized cheering groups.
The event was under the theme: “Running for a Healthy Heart” and was in aid of the Ghana Heart Foundation. Some of the nation's leading long-distance runners like David Zigah took the opportunity to participate as part of his preparatory training for a forthcoming international marathon event in Germany.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng and Dr. Mensa Otabil later addressed the participants.
